For the right dosage of medicine (horse wormers for
instance) and food it is of essence to know the weight of
your pony or horse. For example: underdose for an adult
horse could be harmful, while it’s important not to give a
foal an overdose.

Below you will find the weights of the most common horses.
This table is purely a guide to the average weight of a
particular type. Variations from the average can at times
be quite extreme.


Mini Shetland pony: 220 – 385 lbs (100 – 175
kg)

Shetland pony: 440 – 550 lbs (200 – 250 kg)

Welsh pony: 660 – 770 lbs (300 – 350 kg)

New Forest pony: 770 – 880 lbs (350 – 400 kg)

Icelandic horse: 770 – 880 lbs (350 – 400 kg)

Arabian horse: 881 – 990 lbs (400 – 450 kg)

Haflinger: 990 – 1320 lbs (450 – 600 kg)

Fjord: 990 – 1320 lbs (450 – 600 kg)

Friesian horse: 1100 – 1540 lbs (500 – 700 kg)
